The Cost of Sweeping Conflict Under the Rug

Unresolved workplace conflict drains time, talent, and trust. The average U.S. employee spends nearly three hours a week managing conflict, costing organizations billions each year. For leaders, it’s up to 40% of their time spent on conflict rather than strategy. Beyond the financial toll, unresolved conflict damages morale, retention and innovation.

Where Do We Begin?

Much of what divides us comes from tension between two valid perspectives: task::relationship, spend::save, care for others::care for self. When we cling too tightly to one side, it becomes me vs. you. The truth is that long-term success requires both.

Understanding polarities increases objectivity. Rather than swinging a pendulum between two interdependent pairs, both/and thinking expands the team’s capacity for progress. It is not only possible to get the benefits of both perspectives, it is necessary for success.

Drawing from the work of Barry Johnson, Brian Emerson and Kelly Lewis, Chickadee Facilitation uses concrete tools to drive deep conversations.

Meg Hegemann

I have worked in leadership development, conflict transformation and culture change for 30 years. I have experience in emergency management, urban ministry, municipal and state government and non-profit organizations of all sizes. This diversity of work has led to relationships with people from all walks of life which inform my perspective and practice.

I am passionate about building community, making space for historically marginalized voices, speaking truth to power, breaking down false dichotomies, and helping teams be the change they wish to see.
